Impact and Programs
Accomplishments
Aeon celebrated 30 years of creating Home in 2016. Every day, more than 14,000 people are homeless in our community, and many more are on the verge. One of the greatest barriers to finding safe, stable housing is economic. The average income for those living in Aeon’s affordable apartment homes have an average income of $10,843. In 2016, 5,119 individuals and families lived in our 2,700 permanent apartment homes. Twenty-one percent of our households experienced homelessness in the past. Twenty percent of our residents are aged 55+; 32% are children aged 18 or younger.
In 2016, our supporters helped us preserve 4 affordable properties in our community, totaling 288 apartment homes that will be affordable now and into the future.
Current Goals
Starting in 2016 and guiding us through 2022, our new strategic plan calls for all of Aeon to focus on providing Home opportunities for families and individuals with the greatest barriers to stable housing. We will do this by securing capital, increasing proficiency, and creating homes – at a rate of 300-400 new apartment homes created or preserved each year.
Community or Constituency Served
Under Aeon's new strategic plan, we focus our work on serving individuals and families who experience the greatest barriers to achieving housing stability. These barriers include earning household incomes below 30% area median income, facing mental health challenges, formerly experiencing homelessness and issues with chemical dependency.
