Impact and Programs
Accomplishments
Centro Tyrone Guzman is the oldest Latino nonprofit in Minneapolis, and we serve more than 9,000 unique individuals each year. Latinos are the fastest growing demographic in Minnesota, and Centro Tyrone Guzman provides responsive, culturally-appropriate programs that support and empower ALL Latinos to belong and contribute to the social and economic vitality of Minnesota.
Centro has two core program areas: Health & Wellness and Education.
In Health & Wellness, Centro Tyrone Guzman operates the only culturally-specific Latino emergency food shelf in Minneapolis. After helping families address immediate needs, we offer programs that support and empower their long-term stability, including maternal health, family nutrition, and a Latino seniors program.
Our Education programs start with Siembra Montessori – a Montessori preschool and kindergarten program – and continue through adult education. We are particularly proud of Siembra, because of its tremendous outcomes. While data suggests that on average, only 3 out of 10 children from Spanish-speaking immigrant families will be ready for kindergarten, 100% of Siembra’s children have been assessed as ready to start kindergarten at the appropriate time.
Since 1974, Centro Tyrone Guzman has been committed to building mutually respectful relationships and partnerships with Latino families, community organizations, and funders. These relationships enhance and sustain positive outcomes for families, while multiplying the impact throughout our communities.
