Impact and Programs

Accomplishments During fiscal year 2015-16, Channel One achieved significant goals that helped meet our mission. Our organization attained Service Enterprise Initiative (SEI) certification, which enables us to more effectively recruit, develop, and retain volunteers based on needs assessment and maximize our volunteer program. Channel One Regional Food Bank successfully passed the AIB International Food Safety Audit. This inspection audit enabled Channel One Regional Food Bank to achieve a food industry standard that provides an effective framework for safe food handling processes and procedures aimed at protecting the food supply food chain and reducing food safety risks for our clients. The Food Bank received over 10 million pounds of food, an 8% increase, and distributed 9,347,360 pounds of food, including over 2 million pounds of fresh produce, to 185 member agency programs across our 14 county region. The Supplemental Food Shelf distributed 3.6 million pounds of food, an 8% increase, to 6,796 registered households during the year.
Current Goals Distribute 10 million pounds of food throughout our 14 county service area. Recruit and engage 2,000 volunteers as hunger relief partners. Provide backpacks to 1,000 students in Olmsted County. Develop food pantry program for Olmsted County middle and high school students. Provide food boxes to 1,650 low-income senior citizens monthly through the Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors (NAPS)
Community or Constituency Served Low-income and food insecure families, individuals, including children, the elderly, disabled and homeless.
Geographic Area Served Channel One Regional Food Bank serves hungry people in 14 counties in SE Minnesota and one county in western Wisconsin. Those counties include: Dodge, Faribault, Fillmore, Freeborn, Goodhue, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Rice, Steele, Wabasha, Waseca, and Winona in Minnesota, and La Crosse County in Wisconsin.
