Mission Statement

The mission of Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery is to end child abuse and neglect and create strong healthy families.

Impact and Programs

Accomplishments Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery provided 5442 nights of care to children at risk of abuse and neglect. We made 2688 referrals to other agencies, answered 3987 crisis calls, served 318 families through our respite care services , and served 38 families with 522 visits in our home visiting program.
Current Goals 85% of children demonstrate social emotional competencies. 85% of children learn age appropriate coping skills. 80% of parents/guardians identify and discuss their child's social/emotional goals. 80% of parents/guardians gain understanding about their child's development. 80% of parents/guardians learn new techniques to reduce stress. 80% of parents/guardians report Crisis Nursery helped alleviate current crisis. 90% of parents/guardians have the knowledge and skills to access available community resources, information and referral. 100% of parents/guardians have a safety plan in place to keep their family safe.
Community or Constituency Served Greater Minneapolis serves families in Hennepin county; sheltering children aged newborn through six. During life’s most challenging times, Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery is often the only place our community’s most isolated and poor families can turn. Whether they are dealing with homelessness, domestic violence, a medical emergency or exhaustion, Hennepin County families can seek help and hope from the Crisis Nursery every hour of the day, every day of the week. With a 24-hour crisis helpline, help is just a phone call away. Parents in crisis can also choose to bring their children ages newborn through age 6 (the ages most at risk for abuse of neglect) to the Crisis Nursery’s residential shelter. Children are cared for at the Crisis Nursery for up to three consecutive nights, 30 nights a year, giving overwhelmed parents time to address the immediate crisis in their lives. The Crisis Nursery also provides long-term, intensive support through home visiting.
Geographic Area Served Hennepin County for shelter services. Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery has partnerships that expand our home visiting social service and mental health services outside Hennepin County.
