Impact and Programs
Accomplishments
In 2015, Greater Twin Cities United Way and its partners: fed 202,682 hungry people; provided shelter and/or housing services for 15,488 people; increased earnings for 6,855 people; provided safety services for 61,287 people; ensured 6,543 children were fully prepared for kindergarten or age-appropriate in development; increased early grade literacy for 4,415 children; engaged 23,649 youth in quality out-of-school time programs; provided health care access for 49,142 uninsured people; engaged 4,913 youth in healthy behaviors; and supported 34,315 older adults and people living with disabilities.
Current Goals
In 2016, Greater Twin Cities United Way will 1) Build pathways out of poverty through our work in Education, Jobs and Safety Net. We focus on 10 goal areas and quantitative progress is reported annually in our Community Results publications, published in July. Our goals include: increase food in the emergency food system; provide shelter and/or housing services to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness; increase earnings through job training and earned income tax credits; provide safety services for people resolving domestic violence issues; ensure children are fully prepared for kindergarten or age-appropriate in development; increase early grade literacy for K-4 students; provide youth with quality out-of-school time programs that offer enrichment and academic opportunities; ensure that individuals receive the health care services and supports they need for optimal health and productivity; and support older adults and people with disabilities to remain independent. 2) Engage people across the nine-county region to give, advocate, and volunteer with our invitation to LIVE UNITED. 3) Deliver strong operating results that focus on donors and community partner needs.
Community or Constituency Served
United Way focuses on three areas - safety net, education and jobs - and serves people living at or below 200 percent of poverty in nine counties: Anoka, Carver, Chisago, Dakota, Hennepin, Isanti, Ramsey, Scott and western Washington counties of Minnesota.
