Mission Statement

Merrick Community Services' mission is to improve the lives of the residents of the East Side of Saint Paul by empowering individuals, strengthening families, and promoting their independence.

Impact and Programs

Accomplishments The primary objective of Merrick was to provide services that strengthen individuals and families so that their lives will be improved economically and socially. During the previous year, the following impact was made in our community: -Senior Independence Program – 739 individuals served through Merrick’s Meals on Wheels, Brown Bags Healthy Grocery Drop-off, Chore Assistance Program, Referral Services, and Senior Health and Well-Being Group. -Employment Services – 2,073 individuals served through the East Side Job Bank, Environmental and Construction Workers Training Program (ECWTP), and Highway Heavy Occupations Training (HHOT). -Family & Youth Services – 874 individuals served through Family Case Management, Parenting Education and Groups, and Youth After School and Summer Programming. -Basic Needs/Emergency Services – 11,900 individuals served through a Food Shelf site, a mobile food shelf, holiday toy give-a-way, and Emergency Services.
Current Goals The goals of Merrick for the current year are to: • Provide services that strengthen individuals and families so that their lives will be improved economically and socially • Design and deliver services that are inclusive and reflect the diverse needs of the East Side community • Maintain a service delivery system that is efficient and cost effective • Create collaborative partnerships that support and enhance our mission and delivery of services
Community or Constituency Served Participants in Merrick’s primary service area live in Saint Paul’s East Side, an area with high poverty and unemployment rates. Merrick Community Services helps children and families struggling with poverty, low-income homebound seniors, and underemployed/unemployed adults.
Geographic Area Served Merrick’s primary service area is the East Side of Saint Paul, which includes Planning Districts 1, 2, 4, and 5, with geographic boundaries that extend from Interstate 35E to the west, Larpenteur Avenue to the north, Century Avenue to the east, and Interstate 94 to the south.
