Impact and Programs
Accomplishments
Over the last three years, MACV has doubled the number of veterans it annually serves. This has been driven by increased outreach, new generations of veterans returning home who are facing reintegration concerns, and older generations of veterans who have chronic concerns or are facing unexpected crises. In 2014, MACV served 1,810 veterans, including a 15% increase in new clients from 2013. In addition to serving more veterans in 2014 than in any previous year and in a highly efficient manner, MACV accomplished the following quantitative and qualitative results:
• 34 legal clinics served 1,374 veterans
• 8 StandDown events reached 2,492 veterans with the assistance of more than 200 community agencies and 550 volunteers
• Through MACV’s U.S. Department of Labor Veterans Employment & Training grant, 170 homeless veterans obtained employment and 90% retained their employment for at least six months
• 88% of veterans served remained stably housed six months after completing MACV programs
A veteran’s case is not closed until they have reached stability. Of the veterans served in 2014, 58% were prevented from becoming homeless and 42% were assisted out of homelessness. While MACV has proven results in positively impacting the lives of individual veterans and their families, it also seeks to gain an understanding of its services’ investment return. Started in 2014, MACV is undergoing a return on investment study with the Wilder Foundation so it will be able to demonstrate the financial return of its services’ costs. This study is expected to be finished in 2015.
Current Goals
In 2015, MACV expects to continue serving an increasing number of clients, especially due to its emphasis on both urban and rural outreach. MACV will be focusing on sustaining this growth to meet the state’s need while also continually improving the quality of its programming. In 2015, MACV expects to reach the following minimum outcomes:
• 1,875 veterans and families will receive services from MACV
• An 85% or greater occupancy rate will be maintained in MACV operated housing units
• 85% of veterans will still be stably housed six months after completing MACV’s programs
• 190 homeless veterans will obtain employment through MACV’s U.S. Department of Labor grant
• 70% of clients participating in the employment program will obtain employment
• 80% of veterans who gain employment will retain it for at least 180 days
• 1,400 veterans will receive services at a legal clinic
• 2,500 veterans will attend a StandDown event
Of the veterans who complete MACV programs in 2015, approximately 40% will be assisted out of homelessness and 60% will be prevented from becoming homeless.
